The Wilder Building
Client: Société québécoise des infrastructures
Project description
Initiated by Quebec’s Infrastructure Society, the Wilder Building – Espace Danse has transformed a former industrial building into a 22,300 m², nine-storey complex. It is home to Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, l’École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal, Tangente and l’Agora de la Danse, as well as offices of the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications and the Quebec Council of Arts and Letters. Having implemented ecological and energy-efficient strategies to ensure high environmental efficiency, this sustainability-focused project has achieved LEED Silver Certification.

Characteristics and Impacts
This project enabled the reuse of a historical building. The space’s intended use called for an environment conducive to creativity, offering optimal ambient conditions and exemplary acoustics (NC-25). Air displacement ventilation systems were ingeniously designed and integrated, avoiding the need for ceiling ducts and creating a sense of vertical clearance. Not only did the project preserve the building’s historic envelope, but it also achieved a 34% energy reduction, proof of our teams’ ingenuity when it comes to energy.
A complete overhaul of the Agora’s food services was carried out, improving operational efficiency and offering a better user experience.
- It represents a resourceful integration of mechanical systems into complex architecture.
- This basic and enhanced commissioning of systems ensures consistent use and optimum efficiency.
- The project has received LEED-NC Silver Certification.
- Léonard Prize from the AFG – Mechanical-Electrical Building Category.
