Université de Montréal – Science Complex
Client: Université de Montréal
Project description
The 58,700 m² science pavilion is located on the former Outremont railway yard in Montreal and includes two distinct areas linked by a light-filled library. It houses numerous classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, a library, administrative areas and numerous common spaces. The complex was designed to promote energy conservation and savings.

Characteristics and Impacts
To ensure optimal energy performance, we conducted energy simulations that showed an exemplary annual consumption of 2 GJ/m², representing a 52.7% energy consumption reduction compared with the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 benchmark. The objectives were achieved thanks to energy-saving measures, such as presence detection lighting control, LED lighting and variable flow systems, glycol recovery loops, heat recovery coolers and terminal reheating for science laboratories using heat from the coolers.
This project was awarded LEED-NC (CAGBC) Gold certification.
