Project presentation

The new 2,940 m² Residential and Long-term Care Centre (CHSLD) in Chibougamau has 32 rooms divided across 3 prosthetic islands. Two closed units comprise 8 and 10 rooms each, while an open unit offers 14 rooms. Each unit includes a dining room, lounge and a sanitary bloc. The new building also includes a day centre and welcomes, in addition to the elderly, people with physical disabilities or other problems associated with loss of autonomy.

The installation of efficient equipment has enabled the integration of various technologies, including a thermal wheel-type heat recovery unit that reuses over 80% of the sensible and latent energy contained in the exhaust air, low-temperature radiant floors as the primary heating source, connected to an electric boiler, a 100% electric heating system, and a fully variable flow ventilation system for the offices and multi-purpose rooms, adapted to sporadic occupancy of these spaces.

The project implemented several LEED-compliant measures, including a wood structure, LED lighting and a modular indoor air conditioning system with a heat wheel. Wood windows and building materials were favoured to design an efficient envelope in harmony with nature, while architectural aluminum cladding imitating wood was added to ensure harmony and durability.
