Project description
M&R Engineering (a member of BPA) provided mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection and electrical system design for the new building, built on the adjacent lot to the existing hotel and connected to the existing hotel by a pedway at level 2.

Characteristics and Impacts
- The new extension is served by a hybrid geothermal system with 36 geothermal boreholes located under the parking lot.
- Water-to-water heat pumps supplemented with electric boilers and a fluid cooler provide heating and cooling to the building, primarily through 4-pipe fan coils.
- Building ventilation is provided by 16 air handling units and energy recovery ventilators.
- The building includes a complete BACnet digital controls system.
- The electrical systems included integration of performance lighting, sound, and rigging equipment and power, lighting, communications, and life safety systems design.
- The facilities lighting controls will be a digital integrated lighting control system for the multi-purpose venue, hotel lobbies, pool area restaurant, bar and VIP lounges to provide maximum control and flexibility of system modifications in the future.
- The building includes a 500kW diesel generator for the buildings emergency power plant, installed within the building envelope to support all life safety systems.
- The fire alarm system includes advanced detection systems, including air aspiration and beam detection type systems for lobbies and to comply with code variance requirements in the multi‐purpose venue.
