Residential Multiplexes (NHC) – Nunavut
Client: The Nunavut Housing Corporation
Project presentation
Several multiplexes of five to 13 units have been built in more than 14 Nunavut communities. Our mission is to provide every family with fair access to affordable housing. More than 55 new buildings have been completed in just four years, providing over 290 housing units. The buildings are designed with permafrost preservation in mind. Some are equipped with water pumping systems, while others are supplied by municipal services.
-
Characteristics and Impacts
- BPA designed mechanical rooms that allowed annual maintenance without the need to access the dwellings.
- Intermediate wastewater tanks were designed to regulate the discharge flow to municipal facilities. This system prevents overloading.
- The Nunavut Housing Corporation’s current goal is to build over 3,000 new homes to meet the needs of a young population.
