Project description
La Cité, Ontario’s largest French-language college, has nine linked buildings with approximately 60,000 m2 of total floor space, that needed upgrades to meet the college’s Environmental Sustainability Plan. The HVAC systems at their main campus were nearing the end of their useful service life. Approximately 550 heat pumps, 25 makeup air systems, and five rooftop units containing R-22 were replaced over a five-year period to increase efficiency and meet its energy goals.

Characteristics and Impacts
- A study was conducted to evaluate the technical feasibility and financial business case of various HVAC replacement options in alignment with carbon reduction goals.
- The project generated savings of 295 tCO2e in GHG emissions and $59,000 in energy costs annually, a resounding success for the College.
